The Pink Plaid Pumpkin Patch Outfit

The pumpkin patch was pure mud and I would wear this again tomorrow. A pink plaid shacket over a black square neck crop top, light wash straight leg jeans, white platform sneakers that survived the gravel, a purple corduroy tote that held everything, and the green pom beanie that has basically lived on my head since September.

The shacket over the crop top

The pink plaid button down shacket is the star. It is a heavy flannel shirt jacket in pink, grey and white plaid, with two chest pockets and black buttons, and it is roomy enough to layer. You can see how oversized it sits in the flat lay on the wood floor. I wear it open. Check the size chart on the listing, because if you size up for slouch, the sleeves get long fast.

Under it goes the black square neck long sleeve ribbed crop top. It is fitted and short, so it meets high waisted jeans without a gap. The black keeps the plaid from looking too sweet, and the long sleeves mean you can leave the shacket in the car when the sun finally shows up. Ribbed knit stretches, so stay true to size. Tuck it in a little at the front if it rides up.

Jeans and sneakers for mud and gravel

The light wash high waisted straight leg jeans are relaxed through the leg, which is what you want when you crouch over a pile of pumpkins like I am doing in the photo. Skinny jeans and squatting do not get along. The light wash sits next to the pink plaid without fighting it. Check the inseam on the listing, since straight legs look best grazing the top of the shoe.

The white platform sneakers survived the gravel and the puddles, which I did not expect. The thick sole keeps your feet above the worst of the mud. White sneakers at a farm sound like a bad idea, and sometimes are. A damp cloth and a drop of dish soap fixed mine that night. Wear thicker socks if the platform feels stiff at first.

The tote and the beanie

The purple corduroy tote bag held my phone, wipes, a water bottle, a sweatshirt for later and, briefly, a tiny pumpkin I could not resist. It has long shoulder straps and a snap at the top so nothing tips out. Purple next to pink plaid sounds strange and looks great. You can see it hanging on the green peg rail in the styled photo, right under the beanie.

The dark green cable knit pom beanie is the one that has basically lived on my head since September. It is thick, warm and topped with a big fluffy pom. The green is the surprise in this outfit. It pulls in the color of the fields and keeps all that pink from going full candy. Wear your hair down and loose under it. It hides hat hair, and on a damp day that is a public service.

Swaps and a muddy day at the patch

Most of this you may already own. Any light jeans, any fitted black top and any clean white sneaker will do the job. If you only buy one piece, make it the shacket. It goes over a hoodie for a football game and over a dress with boots. The pumpkins, apples, corn, scarf, rug and bench in the styled photo are styling extras, not part of the outfit.

The day that lifestyle photo was taken, the patch was pure mud and the wind kept throwing my hair in my mouth. I squatted down, grabbed a pumpkin and started laughing because I was sure I was about to tip over. I did not. Nothing got ruined, nothing got soaked through, and I would wear the whole thing again tomorrow.
